GCU Lahore Launches First Summer Internship Program for Undergraduate Students

Government College University Lahore (GCU Lahore) has announced its first-ever Summer Internship Program, offering more than 100 on-campus internship opportunities for undergraduate students from across Pakistan.

According to the university, the initiative is the first large-scale institutional internship program introduced by a public-sector university for BS students, providing practical workplace experience alongside academic learning.

Over 100 Internship Opportunities Available

The internship program aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional experience by allowing students to work within various departments of the university.

Selected interns will gain hands-on exposure to:

  • University governance
  • Academic research and innovation
  • Strategic planning
  • Financial management
  • Information technology
  • Quality assurance
  • Administrative operations

The program is designed to help students develop practical skills while understanding how a modern university operates.

Internship Duration and Schedule

According to GCU Lahore, the internship will run for six to eight weeks during July and August 2026.

Participants will:

  • Work five days a week
  • Be placed at either the Main Campus or the Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) Campus
  • Receive practical training under university departments

The internship is intended to provide real-world experience in a structured academic environment.

Internship Supports HEC Undergraduate Policy

Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry said the initiative has been designed to fulfill the internship requirement under the Higher Education Commission’s Undergraduate Education Policy 2023.

The program seeks to equip students with workplace experience before graduation, helping them build professional competencies valued by employers.

Who Can Apply?

The internship program is open to:

  • Undergraduate students of GCU Lahore
  • Students from all HEC-recognized universities
  • Candidates who have completed the fourth semester of their BS degree
  • Students in good academic standing
  • Students awaiting their fourth-semester results

By opening the program to students from universities across Pakistan, GCU aims to encourage collaboration and provide wider access to experiential learning opportunities.

Why This Matters

Internships have become an increasingly important part of higher education, helping students apply classroom knowledge in professional settings while developing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

The launch of this large-scale internship program reflects a growing emphasis on industry-relevant education, experiential learning, and graduate employability in Pakistan’s higher education sector.

For eligible students, the program offers an opportunity to gain practical experience, strengthen their resumes, and fulfill academic internship requirements before completing their undergraduate degrees.
