The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has postponed the announcement of the Matric Science Group Results 2026 by two days to conduct an additional verification process following an unusually high number of students securing top grades.
According to the board, the decision is intended to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the final results before they are officially released.
Special Review for Top Grades
BSEK has initiated a special verification exercise, referred to as “super checking,” for students who obtained A-1 and A grades in the Matric Science examinations.
The board said the review aims to verify the accuracy of marks before publishing the results.
Higher Number of Top Performers
Acting Chairman Masharraf Rajput said approximately 175,000 students appeared in the Matric Science examinations this year.
According to the board:
- Around 175,000 students appeared in the exams.
- Nearly 86,000 students secured A-1 and A grades.
Officials noted that the number of top grades was significantly higher than last year, prompting the board to carry out an additional review.
Experienced Teachers Conducting Verification
The verification process is being carried out by experienced and reputable teachers rather than regular board staff.
The review includes:
- Matching compiled results with manual award sheets.
- Verifying answer scripts.
- Cross-checking marks before finalizing the results.
According to the acting chairman, the objective is to ensure complete transparency and avoid any doubts regarding the authenticity of the results.
E-Marking Not Fully Implemented
The board also disclosed that its plan to introduce electronic marking (e-marking) for Class 10 Mathematics and Computer Science papers could not be fully implemented this year.
According to officials, the project faced two major challenges:
- Incomplete software testing.
- Failure to procure the required servers.
Trial Revealed Significant Variation
During a pilot project, the board tested e-marking on approximately 62,000 Computer Science answer scripts.
However, the exercise revealed a 35% variation between electronic and manual marking.
As a result, BSEK decided to finalize this year’s Matric Science results using the traditional manual checking system.
The board said efforts are continuing to improve the e-marking system before expanding it to Class 9 examinations in the future.
