The Punjab School Education Department has relaxed the building fitness certificate policy for private schools, allowing them to obtain the required certificate from any qualified engineer or engineering firm registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council.
Previously, private schools were required to secure building fitness approval only from the provincial Communication and Works Department.
Certificate Still Mandatory for Registration
The policy change provides schools with more options, but the building fitness certificate remains compulsory for registration and renewal.
CEO Education Tariq Mahmood said private schools should obtain the certificate without delay to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Under the revised rules, certificates may be issued by:
- A civil engineer registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council
- A PEC-registered engineering firm
District registration authorities have been directed to implement the new instructions across Punjab.
The change is expected to make the certification process more accessible while maintaining building safety requirements for private educational institutions.
