KP Plans to Upgrade 72 Public Schools into International-Standard Model Institutions

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed allocating Rs. 9.5 billion in the Budget 2026-27 to transform 72 public schools into model institutions with modern facilities and improved learning environments.

According to budget documents, the initiative is part of the province’s education reform plans aimed at improving access to quality education and modernizing the public school system.

72 Schools to Be Converted into Model Institutions

Under the proposed plan, the government will upgrade:

including:

  • 👦 31 boys’ schools
  • đź‘§ 31 girls’ schools

into model educational institutions designed to meet international standards.

Education officials said the upgraded schools will receive significant infrastructure and technology improvements.

Schools to Receive Modern Facilities

The proposed model schools will be equipped with facilities such as:

Students enrolled in the model schools from:

🎓 Grades 6 to 12

will receive:

  • Free education
  • Boarding facilities
  • Meals
  • Textbooks
  • Monthly stipends

The government said the additional support measures are intended to ensure that talented students can continue their education regardless of their financial circumstances.

Admissions to Be Based on Merit

According to the proposed framework:

📝 Each model school will admit 50 academically talented students

who will be selected on merit.

Officials said merit-based admissions are intended to promote equal educational opportunities and encourage academic excellence.

Project Timeline

The initiative is expected to:
