The Sindh government has introduced Sanatan Dharma as a compulsory subject for Hindu students studying in government primary schools from Grades 3 to 5.
The decision was announced through an official notification issued by the Sindh School Education Department, which has directed education authorities across the province to implement the new policy.
Sanatan Dharma to Be Taught from Grades 3 to 5
Under the new directive, Hindu students enrolled in government primary schools will study Sanatan Dharma as part of their curriculum from Grade 3 through Grade 5.
The notification has been circulated to:
- Divisional Directors of Primary Education
- District Education Officers
for implementation across Sindh.
Free Textbooks for Students
To support the initiative, the Sindh Textbook Board will:
- Print Sanatan Dharma textbooks.
- Supply the books free of charge to eligible Hindu students studying in government schools.
The government said students will not have to pay for the textbooks.
Objective of the Initiative
According to the School Education Department, the policy aims to ensure that Hindu students receive education in accordance with their religious beliefs as part of the primary school curriculum.
The initiative is intended to provide students with access to religious education relevant to their faith within the public education system.
Education Department Issues Implementation Directives
The department has instructed the relevant education authorities to:
- Ensure timely implementation of the policy.
- Coordinate the distribution of textbooks.
- Facilitate the introduction of the new subject in government primary schools.
Further administrative arrangements are expected to be made to support the rollout of the curriculum.
