The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has directed all universities and degree-awarding institutions offering business and management programs to obtain accreditation from the National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC), warning that institutions failing to comply could face regulatory action, including the suspension of admissions.
The directive has been issued as part of HEC’s efforts to improve the quality, credibility, and international recognition of business education in Pakistan.
HEC Sets Fall 2027 Accreditation Deadline
In a letter addressed to vice chancellors, rectors, presidents, and heads of higher education institutions, HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar instructed universities to ensure that all business schools, faculties, institutes, and departments secure NBEAC accreditation by the Fall 2027 semester.
The commission said institutions must meet the council’s prescribed minimum quality standards within the given timeframe.
What Is NBEAC Accreditation?
According to HEC, the National Business Education Accreditation Council serves as Pakistan’s official accreditation body for business and management education.
Its accreditation framework evaluates several key areas, including:
- Institutional governance
- Academic programs
- Curriculum quality
- Faculty qualifications
- Student support services
- Research and innovation
- Industry linkages
- Overall institutional performance
The process is designed to ensure that business graduates receive education aligned with national and international academic standards.
Admissions Could Be Suspended
HEC warned that universities failing to obtain accreditation within the prescribed deadline may face regulatory action under the commission’s policies and legal framework.
Potential measures include:
- Suspension of admissions in non-accredited business programs
- Other regulatory actions under HEC quality assurance policies
The warning places additional pressure on institutions that have not yet completed the accreditation process.
Many Business Programs Yet to Be Accredited
The commission noted that a significant number of business and management programs across Pakistan have not yet obtained NBEAC accreditation.
Universities have therefore been urged to begin the accreditation process as soon as possible to avoid disruptions to future admissions.
Universities Asked to Complete Registration Process
HEC informed institutions that the:
- Registration application form
- Accreditation manual
- Guidelines for evaluation
are available through the National Business Education Accreditation Council’s official platform.
Universities have been encouraged to complete the required documentation and initiate the accreditation process well before the Fall 2027 deadline.
Why This Matters for Students
The latest directive is particularly important for students planning to pursue degrees such as:
- BBA
- MBA
- BS Business Administration
- Management Sciences
- Finance
- Marketing
- Human Resource Management
- Other business-related disciplines
Students applying in the coming years should verify whether their chosen university’s business program holds NBEAC accreditation or is actively undergoing the accreditation process.
The move is expected to strengthen the quality and global competitiveness of Pakistan’s business education sector while ensuring that graduates receive qualifications that meet nationally recognized academic standards.
